SWIPO is excited to announce the launch of its Converged Code of Conduct for cloud services. This Code of Conduct is the third SWIPO Code, and it was developed to address identified needs and feedback provided during public consultation processes earlier this year.
The Converged Code of Conduct is a comprehensive document that includes all of the requirements reflected in the already existing IaaS and SaaS Codes. It is designed to be a single Code that is more broadly applicable to all different types of cloud services, including Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS).
SWIPO has taken great care to ensure that the Converged Code of Conduct is responsive to and otherwise meets the needs of all stakeholders in the cloud computing ecosystem.
“After careful consideration of the feedback received, we are confident that the converged Code of Conduct provides a clear set of guidelines for cloud service providers to follow,” said Françoise Maon, SWIPO Manager. “We are committed to promoting best practices in the cloud computing industry, and this Code of Conduct is an important step towards achieving that goal.”
The Converged Code of Conduct covers a wide range of issues, including how to port data from an environment to another and provide a secure process for the switching and porting of business data. It is designed to promote trust between cloud service providers and their customers, and to ensure that cloud services are delivered in accordance to article 6 of the Free Flow of Non-Personal data regulation (FFOD, Regulation (EU) 2018/1807).
After the Data Act is finalized, SWIPO plans to update this third Code of Conduct to address the necessary requirements set forth in the Data Act and help ensure compliance with the anticipated Data Act provisions relating to porting and switching between Data Processing Services. Once amended, SWIPO anticipates that the Code will be eligible to be listed in the “Cloud Rule Book” as a Data Act implementation tool.
SWIPO invites and encourages all cloud service providers to adhere to the Converged Code of Conduct and to promote its use throughout the industry. By working together to promote best practices, we can build a more secure and trustworthy cloud computing ecosystem.
